Xavier Tate is seen in images released by the Chicago Police Department.

CHICAGO — Rewards totaling $100,000 are now being offered for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of Xavier L. Tate Jr., the Aurora man that Chicago police say murdered off-duty CPD Officer Luis Huesca last Sunday.

Cook County CrimeStoppers and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives are offering a combined $25,000 reward for information that leads to Tate’s arrest, according to CPD.

The Chicago Police Memorial Foundation, the FBI, and the Fraternal Order of Police are offering a combined $75,000 for information leading to Tate’s arrest and conviction, police said.

You can submit anonymous tips by calling CrimeStoppers at 1-800-535-STOP or online at CPDTip.com.

Anyone who sees Tate should call 911. People with information about where he may be can call Area One detectives at 312-747-8380.

A federal task force assigned to the case searched a home in the 10800 block of South Hale this afternoon and recovered a firearm, among other pieces of evidence. Yesterday, investigators found what they believed to be the murderer’s bicycle in the 5500 block of South Aberdeen.

Huesca, who would have celebrated his 31st birthday on Tuesday, was shot to death in the 3100 block of West 56th Street, not far from his home, around 2:53 a.m. on Sunday. CPD Supt. Larry Snelling said Huesca’s car was missing, but he would not say if the department believed Huesca was killed during a carjacking.

On Monday, detectives released surveillance images and video of a person they wanted to speak with about the crime. By Friday, a Cook County judge had signed a nationwide arrest warrant for Tate. CPD publicly confirmed for the first time late Friday night that Tate is wanted for Huesca’s murder.

Huesca’s wake is scheduled for Sunday afternoon, followed by his funeral on Monday morning.
