2 teenagers charged with robbing Amazon driver, U of C students at gunpoint during weekend crime spree

CHICAGO — Charges have been filed against two teenage boys for allegedly robbing two people, including an Amazon driver, on Saturday afternoon. The teens are also accused of robbing two University of Chicago students and at least one other person a couple of hours later.

You may remember the Ring video footage we shared that showed the Amazon driver watching as the armed crew robbed and physically assaulted a pedestrian in the 4800 block of South Honore around 3:20 p.m.

Even though he saw the armed robbery in progress, the courier got out of his car—apparently to complete a delivery—while the holdup crew was still at the scene. They robbed him, too.

About two hours later, the group robbed two University of Chicago students in the 5400 block of South Ingleside and committed another holdup in the 5100 block of South Drexel, officials said.

Chicago police used license plate readers and CPD’s helicopter to track down the stolen Dodge Charger that the robbers traveled in. Three people bailed out of the Charger near 60th Street and Aberdeen just before 6 p.m. Saturday.

Police arrested a 16-year-old boy and a 17-year-old boy. The third person got away. He’s the one in the video with a large logo on the back of his hoodie and colorful shoes.

A CPD spokesperson said the teens are each charged with four counts of armed robbery and misdemeanor criminal trespassing to a vehicle.
