At least 4 robbed during Saturday morning holdup spree in Albany Park, Hermosa

CHICAGO — Armed men went on a quick robbery spree Saturday morning, concentrating their efforts in the Albany Park neighborhood. The crew is suspected of committing at least four robberies, starting around 5:40 a.m.

Four men, three armed with guns, committed the first robbery after exiting a sedan in the 4200 block of North Bernard. Around the same time, a man was targeted at the Chase Bank, 3204 West Irving Park. He reported that three men wearing masks and brandishing guns got out of a gray vehicle with a busted window while he was at the ATM. He said he was able to drive away before the crew got anything, and he did not immediately file a police report.

Just after 6 a.m., two or three men robbed the 7-Eleven at 2900 West Montrose at gunpoint.

Another man was targeted at a bank ATM around 6:30 a.m. He told police that up to five men displaying guns took his phone and $300 cash as he left the cash machine at Bank of America, 4500 West North Avenue.

CPD described the suspects as Black males wearing black clothing and black ski masks. They’re 15 to 25 years old, slim, and stand 5’4″ to 5’6″ tall. Their car was consistently described as a four-door, possibly a Hyundai or Nissan, with a broken side window.

Saturday’s first three robberies occurred in the Albany Park (17th) Police District. Robbery reports there are up 49% this year and are at their highest level since at least 2020. The fourth holdup on Saturday was in the Grand Central (25th) District. Robberies are up 41% this year and up 106% compared to 2022. Like Albany Park, the district’s robbery rate is at its highest level since at least 2020.
