Man arrested, suspected of fatally stabbing his mother in Wildomar

A woman died the evening of Monday, April 22, after allegedly being stabbed in Wildomar by her son, whom deputies arrested, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department said in a statement Tuesday, April 23.

At around 9:54 p.m. on Monday, deputies responded to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon at the 33000 block of Breckenridge Trail in Wildomar, east of the 15 Freeway and north of Bundy Canyon Road, the sheriff’s statement said.

A 64-year-old woman was found with stab wounds inside a residence and was taken to a hospital, where she died, Tuesday’s statement said.

Deputies at 10 p.m. arrested the son of the victim, Evan Jon Zavala, a 24-year-old Wildomar resident, on suspicion of murder, records show. He  was being held on bail of $1 million.

“There are no outstanding suspects sought in the investigation,” the sheriff’s statement said.

Information on the motive for the stabbing, if known, was not immediately disclosed.

Sgt. Deirdre Vickers, a spokesperson for the sheriff’s department, said this is an ongoing investigation, and no additional information is available.
