CHICAGO — Armed robbers fired at least one shot as they committed a pair of holdups in the West Loop overnight. The incidents, which took place in an area often bustling with weekend clubgoers, did not result in any reported injuries.

Both holdups occurred shortly after 2 a.m. near the intersection of Fulton and Justine streets.

One man reported that three men displayed guns with green lasers attached as they robbed him on the corner. They fired one bullet into the victim’s car and fled with his property.

Around the same time, four armed men robbed another victim at gunpoint in a parking lot on the 1400 block of West Fulton. The robbers threatened to shoot the man, but they did not fire any shots this time.

Video footage of the second robbery showed the crew escaping in a light-colored, small SUV. According to the victims, the robbers were Hispanic men wearing black clothing.

Both crimes occurred in the Near West (12th) District. Robberies in the district are up 2% from last year’s surge and up 75% compared to 2020, according to the Chicago Police Department’s latest data.

CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas. But our mission remains unchanged: To provide original public safety reporting with better context and greater detail than mainstream media outlets. Our editorial email address is news@cwbchicago.com
